sending the wrong message

How persuasive is music? How has downloading changed the industry?

I believe that each person has their own way of listening to music.

My mom for instance listens to the words and the beat of the music like alot of people do.

I myself might very well know every word to a song but I'm not listening to the words nor am I really understanding what the song is saying.

I just listen to the music itself with out the lyrics.

When I do think about what a song says I usually either agree or disagree with the meaning of it.

Just because I disagree with a song however doesn't mean I'll stop listening to it.

I do however believe that certain songs do send the wrong messages to some people.

There are people that truely listen to the words of songs, understanding and taking them in.

Children for instance are a group that listen to the words and learn what those words mean.

My 3 year old cousin dances and sings most songs that I myself listen to and I'm just waiting for the day when she fully understands the meaning of certain words (i.e. bitch, sexy, or hoe ect.) and starts using them herself to talk about either herself or others.

This is a very good example of how music can be persuasive.

Music can cause us to be saying things or even doing things that we dont really know is wrong because someone famous basically said it was ok to do it.

With all of this technology that we have today it makes it very easy to download music either free (illegally) or for a small free of a dollar or two (legal).

When people download free music most of the time I feel that they do it not thinkingly.

I feel that they do it basically to save themselves money.

I know many people who didnt know that when they download free music that they are stealing from the artist.

Yet now that they do know they do it anyways just because its FREE.

I myself have bought every song I own weather I bought the whole cd or just the song itself I still pay for each song.

Besides the fact that its illegal to download free music I mostly do it because the person who made the song is just doing their job and I wouldn't want people stealing from me when I'm trying to do my job.

I believe that alot of people download free music because they feel that the person who made the song already has enough money and doesn't need their dollar or two and will live just fine with out it.

But if you think about it in that sense then if 10000 people said the same thing when they downloaded free music then the artist lost $10000.

With $10000 less of an income they would have to start cutting back on what they bought.

But if the artist lost $10000 for each and every song then they may have to stop making music because they would have to worry more about paying for home/family needs over recording time to make their new songs.

Causing an endless cycle of loosing better and better artists.
