The Changing Music Industry

The messages that artists or recording labels send out through their lyrics are very persuasive to the population. Certain genres of music celebrate living lavishly and without restraint. This music challenges listeners to get as much money as they can; and the means to acquire this cash can be as illegal as you want it to be. By listening to music, like interpreting any other art form, has a profound impact. The music opens up the listener to new ideas, thoughts, and educates them on certain lifestyles and actions that they might not have known without the music.

When music was about emotion, the lyrics were about whatever the artist was feeling at the time. If they were having a hard time with a relationship or friends or whatever it may be, the lyrics reflected that. However, the music industry has changed so that record labels will only record certain lyrical compositions. The record labels want to sell and make money, so they need their signed artists to sing about what is popular at the time. Right now, that trend is partying, money, girls, and just having a good time. The pop-culture music scene has developed out of this into something that most young people can or try to relate to..

Downloading of music has changed in the industry in that music is more available. All types of music are available for download, and people who are just trying to start out have a chance. There is no way a large group of people is going to pay for a record made by some garage band of teenagers. However, they might be inclined to listen to it if it was free online. Viral music has played a huge role in getting underground bands to the surface and helps people connect with other types of independent music.
