Media Research Impacting Media Literacy

I think that media research impacts media literacy significantly. Media research in general is very important to the media because if one didn't research the media, such as measuring audiences of shows, or movies, how would one know if the media was being successful. I think that media research makes it possible for people to be media literate because if they didn't do research on the media, how would the be able to understand the media and be media literate. Therefore, I believe that media research impacts media literacy.

media research

Media research impacts media literacy in such ways as that in order to understand the media one must first be media literate and media research helps those to become media literate.

Performing media research takes great understanding of the media and the more media research is done the more we can understand how media literate our society is.

Therefore the impact media research has on media literacy is that it helps to promote literacy and finds out how many people are media literate by measuring audiences of the media.

Question: How does media research Impact media literacy?
Weather or not you research a media medium and how audiences respond to it,
the audience may not completely understand it. you have to do research on your target
audience and what their general interests are so that they understand what you are telling
them or selling them...

Good/ bad Public Relations

Public relations in general is a very sticky profession to be involved in. Depending on the audience there is no real way to decide what is good public relations and what is bad. A fabulous example describing that phenomena is the Tiger Woods apology speech. Many thought that the speech was not sincere, forced, and could have possibly even been a gimmick to step over some previous sponsors. On the other hand, many thought that it was a great thing that he was able to do and that he should get credit for doing the right thing. However, although no one can definitively say what good and bad public relations are, many can make some generalizations. Good public relations may be something that gets someone off the hook, it may be something that supports a great cause, it may unfairly persuade people but do the job it was intended to do. Bad public relations could be some of the same things including unfairly persuading people, getting someone "off the hook," or supporting a terrible cause.

How have blogs / the internet changed news reporting

In today's age technology is the present and the future. New technologies are allowing communication and media to be shared as quickly as thing happen. With new technologies including cell phones, mobile blackberries, and many other devices used for communicating, finding a story to report has become very easy and very difficult simultaneously. On the one hand you have all of the information you will ever need to get a lead on a story with the click of a mouse. However, because of the rapidly fast communication time between people in today's age, it is very difficult to be the very first reporter to crack the story. In addition to the difficulty of getting there on time regarding reporters, blogs and the internet have brought an incredibly large amount of opinion into reporting. With celebrities blogging their thoughts on events as well as thousands and thousands more, it is easier to see where the popular opinion of the people lie with some investigation. That, in itself, has completely changed reporting.

How have TV and Radio evolved?

Evolved is an incorrect word to use when discussing the changing roles of television and radio. A better question is how they have changed and if in fact they will be with us for much longer. Radio is a media that had very vastly changed over the years. It went from a time when radio programs were a family ritual and time of entertainment, to a time when music and silly talk shows overwhelm the radio. The time and perception of the radio has also changed. Why listen to a radio talk show when you have them on television? Radio is primarily listened to in the car. That is the bottom line and radio is in a decline which will inevitable continue until it is extinct. Television however, may have a chance to stay around a little longer. There are still families who do sit down and watch programs together. However, it is only a matter of time before something even better than the television hits the world by storm.

Advertising in the Public World.

Advertising is one of the biggest contributors to the success of a company or a product. This is most certainly due to the fact that advertising is literally everywhere. Today, it is almost impossible to avoid advertising. From the minute we get up, until the minute we fall asleep we constantly see brands and labels everywhere. Thus, these companies are so successful because we are constantly seeing their names plastered everywhere. Today in class, the group that presented mentioned that it only takes about twenty views of a commercial to persuade a consumer to purchase a product. So what if a consumer sees a product? What about the label? If seeing the product in use in person or seeing the product name, is it possible that a person will want to purchase the product sooner? If so, can we say that we as humans are walking billboards for products at almost all times? Whether we know so or not, a lot of times brands will put their name on articles of clothing, or make their piece distinguishable so another person will want to purchase the same item. Advertising gets companies and products so much business in today’s world, and therefore it is incredibly important for them.

Public Relations: Necessary for Public Figures and Companies

Public relations, in general, is incredibly important to anyone and anything in the media world. PR people usually take care of management, publicity, promotion lobbying, fund-raising, crisis management and all kinds of areas. If it were not for public relations people, those who are in the media would probably have a hard time staying in the media. Public relations people do their best to make a public figure look their best so that they are successful. They organize events, which generally make these people look good in the public eye. They are responsible for promoting, and making their clients public. However, not only are they involved with promoting media figures. Public relations is also responsible for crisis management. If a public figure or company makes themselves look bad in anyway, it is Public Relations’ job to correct them, help them make a public announcement, or change what they are currently doing in anyway to basically save the job of these public people or companies. Companies and public figures would probably not thrive and be successful without the help of a good public relations group.

A Symbiotic Relationship

Media needs advertising as much as advertising needs the media. Advertising uses media such as the newspapers, magazines, and websites to get their product out there and the media used advertisements for the money pay.

In order for media sources to continue they need to bring in revenue. This can be by charging for use and by advertisements. Many do not charge the user and if they do it is not enough to sustain the business. Therefore advertisements pay big money to be featured in television programming, papers, magazines, and even the internet.

Advertisements need a place to get their information distributed. This can be through many ways but the media is one of the best. Popular website, prime time shows, and popular magazines are being read or watched by many viewers and what a better way to get your product information out than by putting it where people can see it easily.

Therefore the media and advertising are in a symbiotic relationship where if one fails so will the other.

Media and Advertising

Well media and advertising go together hand in hand. Advertising is in media and media is advertising. To understand how they are interrelated one must understand what each is specifically.

Media by definition means: the means of communication, as radio and television, newspapers, and magazines, that reach or influence people widely. Advertising by definition is: the act or practice of calling public attention to one's product, service, need, etc., esp. by paid announcements in newspapers and magazines, over radio or television, on billboards, etc.
As you can see the two coincide with one another as such that without one another they could not exist as we know them.

The media primarily exists to advertise or spread the word to the entire world that is watching or listening. At this point in time newpaper subscribers are down while tv news ratings are up. While some channels are devoted purely to advertising others that are not still have advertisements in between programming and shows. With the exception of pay channels such as HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Encore, and Starz who's prepaid fee's replace revenue earned from advertisements.

Media and Advertising Depend on Each Other

The media uses advertising, and advertising uses the media.

All different types of media, including the internet, newspapers, magazines, television, and radio, use advertising to make money so they can keep producing their news/entertainment service to the public.

Companies want their products and services to be in the public eye and in the back potential customers' minds. They are willing to pay for advertising because public exposure can increases sales. The internet, TV, radio, magazines, and newspapers are prime mediums of communication because people have so much access to all of these every day, making them the best spots for advertisements.

TV networks, radio stations, web sites, and printing companies need money to run, so they open spots specifically for advertising, like commercials, and printed ads, for companies who are willing to pay them.

It's hard to flip through a magazine or listen to the radio without looking at an in-your-face ad or listening to a commercial directly advertising a product. However, these intentional advertisements aren't the only ones used in the media

Subliminal messaging is another way advertising and the media depend on each other. Is it a coincidence that the American Idol judges are drinking from Coke cups every week? Or that contestants on the biggest loser are eating Jello? Or what about the new Lady Gaga music video for telephone? In those nine minutes you see strategically placed products and signs for her new line of headphones, Virgin Mobile, Diet Coke, Polaroid, Wonder Bread, and Miracle Whip, among others.

These companies know they have a chance to get their product out there and associated with someone whose huge in the music industry right now, so they advertise subliminally with just their product logo without having to directly advertise.

Media + Advertising = Awesome.

Without the media commercials and advertisements would not me as well known as they are. Without advertising people would never know about new media. So basically, media and advertising go hand in hand.

Media such as television, radio, magazines, and the Internet are the most popular mediums of media used to advertise. Every time you look at any of these types of media you see advertisements. Whether it is a ProActiv commercial on television or a Cover Girl ad in a magazine without the media the public would not be aware of these products.

If media did not have advertising then the public would not be in the know. The media uses advertisements to promote new media. For example, ABC advertises when new episodes of television shows will be on so that the public knows to tune into the media.

Finally, media can go on without advertisements, but advertisements would less likely survive without media. Ads need the media to share their information with society, but the media could just run shows without commercials and hope people tune in.

Media and Advertising Rely On Each Other

Media and advertising work together because they would not be able to survive without the other one. Advertisements need the media in order to promote themselves and media needs advertisements in order to get the money to continue their business.

For example, ABC needs to advertise commercials during their shows in order to pay to have the show on television. This is why commercials during the super bowl cost so much many as well, and also because of the enormous audience at the time.

If you listen carefully between songs on the radio you can hear the DJ announce the names of the sponsors for the radio station. After or during a TV show there is always an add telling you who sponsors the show. Advertising is in all media. You cannot watch TV, listen to the radio, or browse the web without being bombarded with advertisements, even if you do not realize it.

It is really that simple that without each other advertising and media would not exist. They are the backbone to one another and must work together in order to provide the public with different forms of the media.

Media and advertising working as a team

How do media and advertising work together?

Without media and advertising working together, it would not be possible to have advertisements. Commercials, ads on the radio and ads in magazines are the three main types of media used in advertising. Depending on what the company is advertising, different types of media will be used. For example, for commercials advertising new men’s body spray will most likely be shown the most on channels such as ESPN. Whereas, new upcoming children’s movies will be advertising on channels such as nickelodeon and/or abc family. These companies also take into consideration when most people tune into these channels and how often.
When advertising companies use other types of media such as ads in magazines they coordinate the ads to the types of magazines. For example, a new shaving cream is not going to be advertised in the newest sports illustrated, but you will see about three or even more ads just about shaving cream in seventeen, Cosmo, glamour, etc. Without different types of media, advertisements would not be possible to have.

Media and Advertising

Question: How do media and advertising work together?

Advertising helps the media. By advertising about media, it gives the media publicity and therefor more of the public knows about it.

Without media there would still be a need for advertising because advertising is used for more than just media promotion. This leads me to wonder if you could consider food and merchandise a form of media. It does convey a message to the public and does use advertising....

media and advertisements working together

Both media and advertisements are dependent on one and other. Medias like the radio and internet use advertisements to make money. By selling space on their webpage they are able to continue to run their page. This is also beneficial to the advertiser because if this page is popular and their ad is enticing enough chances are it will catch a lot of people's eyes and make them want to know more about the product.

There is also a method to which advertisements are shown where and when. For example, you see an increase in the number of weight loss pill, gym membership and work out video ads around new years. Because it's a known fact that many American's have the resolution of losing weight so they'll be more likely to buy into these types of products. Similarly, children's channels have different commercials then "adult" channels. You don't see toy commercials while watching the six o' clock news.

By doing this they are advertising more effectively. Instead of running your ad at any time on any channel you want to run it during prime time when most people are assumed to be out of work and relaxing in front of their T.V. They even vary the commercials by gender. If the program is something typically a woman would watch they run tampon and shampoo commercials.

Media and Advertisement

Media and advertising work together in that advertising would not be possible without media because the media is what supports the advertisements.

For example television is a form of media but it is also a form of advertisement during commercials.

Depending on the type of media depends on the type of advertisement. For example on channels that are dedicated to children there are more advertisements for things such as toys or children movies, not things like arthritis medication.

But it would be the opposite for a channel such as TV Land where there would be more advertisement for arthritis medication then children’s toys.

Advertisements are also in other forms of media such as newspapers and magazines, which would also follow the same standards as television.

A sports magazine would not have advertisements for cookies but it would have advertisements for companies such as Nike.

This proves that the media and advertisement must work together to please the public which is what both the media and advertisement agencies are all about, appealing to the public.

Public Relations

Public Relations is an essential part of every corporation on the planet. How a company relates to the public directly effects the success of that company. Public relations is also able to put a positive spin on negative aspects or events of companies. Without a balance between what the consumer knows about a company and what the company is actually like running a business would be impossible. Competition drives companies to offer the best products at the cheapest prices. It is up to the public relations people to convince consumers why a product is the best. The public relations department of any company can be considered its most vital tool. How better way to sell a product then to have an unlimited way to relate your target consumer?

Why companies need Good PR

For large companies, a good public relations department is necessary for success. When companies make mistakes that tarnish their public image, this department acts as sort of the 'clean up crew' for the company. For example, when celebrities make poor decisions and get caught, their Public Relations manager quickly springs to action to try and clean the celebrity's image.
A good public relations devision is key because it acts as the gateway between the company and its corporate offices and the general public or the consumer. Without this buffer, many people would lack the means to representation in these large companies, and these large companies wouldn't be able to tailor their advertising campaigns to the general public as well.

Good Public Relations

Public relations is ultimately the middleman between a company, musician, politician, celebrity, etc. and the general public. Good PR is key for people and companies to maintain good communication with the public. They keep everything under control, especially when controversy arises.

People working in PR also communicate with the media, which is how information is relayed to the public. Good public relations make sure a company/person is viewed in a positive way, and reveals information that enhances that positive image.

Damage control is another aspect of this. Think Toyota. Think Tiger Woods. Think Bill Clinton. Think Chris Brown. They all made mistakes, damaging their images and careers. PR who work for them try to restore the public's perception and trust by strategically organizing interviews, advertising campaigns, and press conferences that get people focused more on how the problem is being resolved and less on the person or company's mistakes.

PR: Improving Images and Publicity or Hiding the Truth?

Public Relations can be both good and bad for various reasons. PR is necessary in mass media, and communications. PR can be used to promote, for publicity, fund-raising and more. PR is needed to keep relationships positive between businesses and other groups.

One example of where PR is a beneficial thing is with advertisements for companies. During the Great Depression, General Motors was seen in a negative light, and as too impersonal. They were advised to use PR to seem friendlier in order to get their automobiles to appeal to more people.

Another example of this is during WWI. Woodrow Wilson asked George Creel to create a new agency that was governmentally based, in order to make war more popular. They had speakers, magazines, posters, and movies all promoting the war. WWI became a popular cause to fight for after people saw it being promoted.

PR can face issues and trouble when they must face a crisis. They must find ways to help companies reinforce their values and not ruin their reputation. This can be done through statements, or even events like teleconferences in which companies address their mistakes or takes questions from people. The way agencies handle this can draw the line between good and bad public relations. People sometimes also see PR as a façade, meaning that only positive aspects are shown, and items may lack details. However, this is necessary to keep the image of whoever is represented.

Public Relations

Public relations is a crucial aspect of any business. Every company wants to be viewed by the public in a positive light, both for the products they produce and their reputation in general. Unfortunately for public relations professionals, it is usually when things go horribly wrong that they are called on for their expertise.

Toyota is the perfect example of this statement. Until recently, public relations was a much smaller part of what they do, and simple advertising was all they needed to supplement their name for quality and value. Unfortunately, recalls and stories of cars being out of control due to malfunctions, has brought the company to its knees. As Toyota has suffered from a huge hit to its reputation and sales, it has been calling on public relations more than ever to control the damage. How the company handles this situation now will have a dramatic impact on how they will be able to move forward in the future. So far they have come out with numerous commercials apologizing for the recalls and there are still many loyal customers who are not compromising the service they have received in the past because of these few incidents.

So far this has been a perfect example of how good public relation moves can save a company in a time that would otherwise be devastating.

Public Relations

What is good/bad public relations?

Public relations can be both good and bad. No matter what the case public relations is a must for any company. Public relations is able to help buyers know more about products that companies are trying to sell us and if they are good or bad. Bad public relations is when whatever the company is trying to sell is put down and their flaws are shown to the community. An example of bad public relations is when one company compares their item to another and portrays them in a negative way. For example all of the laundry commercials will show how much their product works better than another and will even provide the name of the company they are putting down. Where public relations are not always positive they are extremely necessary to have from everyone’s view.

What’s Up With PR?

Public relations is a branch of communications that manages the communication between an organization and the public. Any company that has a say in what they want to be portrayed as in the public has some level of public relations.

An example of good PR as oppose to bad PR is when the public relations branch speak at conferences, work with the media and engage in social media. Good public relations helps the company or organization have a high-quality image.

As for bad public relations, this is when crisis communications comes into place. Public relations professionals have to be quick on their feet. They need to be able to come up with resolutions to problems their clients may be facing. If their client is involved in a lawsuit of some kind, the PR team needs to get a story out to the public to help the client have a better image to the public.

Whether it is good or bad public relations, nearly every company needs a PR team. They need to keep the line of communication streaming between the organization and the public.

Public Relations

Public relations are good because it is a good form of communication to the public, other companies, or any other organizations.

It also helps with communication within a company such as communications with employees, supervisors, or even customers.

It is also a good form of news because media public relations organize news conferences and answer questions asked by the media stations.

Thus good forms of public relations help to support this type of public relations in a positive form.

Bad public relations are things such as advertisements that may lead on an audience on in order to persuade the audience in a certain direction.

Such as putting down another company, a good example of that is the Verizon and AT&T commercials.

Another form of bad public relations would be a company claiming they did something they may not have or may have stolen ideas from another company.

Basically bad public relations are any criminal, immoral or unethical method used.

Good and Bad PR

Public relations is an extremely important aspect of a company. If you are a large business you want to make sure your PR firm knows what they are doing. They need to be able to cover your ass and make you look confident even if you may not be. If something goes wrong with the company they need to put a positive spin on it to keep the public at ease.

For example Toyota is trying to continue to sell their vehicles and make money although they've been having so many problems being able to make them seem reliable with the constant news stories about more and more people having problems with both the acceleration and the breaking in numerous makes and models of their cars.

Good pr is any kind of ad or plug that makes a business look like the good guy, someone to trust and buy from. On the other hand bad pr is anything that shows a companies faults. Something that has people talking about your company but not for good reasons

OH BLOGGING.

Blogging can a little monotonous, because everyone always has an opinion, and it gets to be some silly argument between (sometimes) complete strangers. However, blogging has given the Internet and obtaining news an entirely new look; pretty much everyone has blogged, and many people are spending time reading and writing them. Generally, people will blog about what is going on with their lives, how they might act to a news article, or pretty much anything and everything else. Any negatives aside, blogs can be a very positive resource for companies. With regards to news online; if something is poorly written, reactions, support or whatever may be blogged or commented about an article. Certainly this has changed getting and interpreting news, however it seems to be for the better.

Radio:Never Obsolete

Radio today comes in many forms and can be accessed almost anywhere. It can stream from a website, through a stereo and some mp3 players. Radio is not a dying breed in any way. If it were to become obsolete, how would we learn about new artists other than learning through word of mouth? Radio is an important marketing ploy for artists and record companies, as it basically sells albums and songs. If someone hears a song they like on the radio they would be more likely to purchase the song or even the entire album than if the song was never heard. If it weren’t for the radio, the silly talk show hosts and the ability to call in to request a song, much of the most popular names and music that are known would not be. If it weren’t for radio we wouldn’t need an iPod capacity that holds 40,000 songs. The radio will never be something we could forget.

Blogging, Internet, News

Blogging has made it possible for people to make more informed decisions about the information they choose to view, and what they choose to believe. Blogging has also made it possible for people ask questions and receive answers for anything and everything. People use blogging to share common ideas and views on various subjects. It helps people to gain many perspectives of one topic which in turn expands their own view and knowledge of that topic. But blogging is just one aspect receiving information on the internet.

There is no question that the internet has effected the way society receives information, and it is no surprise. The way we distribute News has been revolutionized several times. In the last century Radio has changed the way we think about the newspaper, then television revolutionized radio, and internet has challenged the way we view television. With the flexibility and seemingly limitless possibilities of the Internet, it is hard to imagine what could possibly come next. The internet has made it possible to watch live television while browsing through local, national, and global newspapers while researching the topics of your favorite articles. The Internet can be accessed for any type of news information at any time of day. The Internet is now even in most of our pockets.

Blogs and their influence on the news

With the invention of the internet, an infinite amount of information became available immediately. Anyone who had access to the internet was able to connect with millions of other users and obtain any amount of information they required. With the advent of this new media, the availability of news changed. People could obtain new information regarding current events instantly, from anywhere, about anywhere in the world.
Blogs have changed the way people gather and record information as well. Blogs give people the opportunity to describe certain things or document events that take place from their perspective. This makes blogging a very personal way to document the news.

How have blogs and the internet changed the way news is reported?

Personally I don't think blogs have changed the way new is reported at all. Personally to me blogging seems like a way of venting to a majority of people who don't care and if they do they may more than likely type a completely opposite response just to gauge your reaction to it. The internet however may have once been a supplemental way of reading the newspaper but is slowly taking away many newspaper customers. For instance I have a subscription to the wall street journal and every few days or so i get an email containing a link to today's news online. Granted I rarely read the email, after a while i just delete them. I would almost rather grab the paper on my way from the school of business and bring it with my on my daily activities. The internet is constantly growing and becoming more diversified. Companies are merging and search engines have rapidly become the most successful and powerful businesses in the world. Google has without a doubt become the most profitable businesses in the past decade. Their efforts to making the entire internet available to the rest of the world to better enhance their search engine has become quite prevalent worldwide with few exceptions.

internet news

How have blogs and the internet changed the way news is reported?

Blogs haven't done anything at all to change the way news is reported.

But internet has had a big help in changing the way the news is reported.

Internet gives new channels and paper chains a chance to make a website and post all their news and articles there in addition to what is on tv or in the paper.

Most times I feel with watching news on tv, the people broadcasting the new run out of time to often to continue or finnish the story.

With internet news sights people who want to hear more about it can go to that sight and watch more videos or read an article on the story.

I feel that internet has helped the news industry.

In the sense that people who only want to hear about one thing or another can do just that with the internet.

Without internet additions I feel that the news would get to long and people would stop watching before they got to see something really important.

With the internet additions it shortens the time that the news is on for.

This also causes a problem for the people on the news.

If they aren't making big stories they might not be on the internet with videos of the story they might just have an article.

The bigger people in the business might have videos online so internet might not be a problem for them.

But with the smaller people they might feel that they aren't getting enough "face time" or air time and might get angry about this.

They will never get rid of new channels for internet news ever because most people watch tv alot and like to watch the news on tv.

Alot of older people only have a tv to watch news and sports as it is.

I feel alot of those older people also dont have computers to be able to watch news and sports on the internet.

Over all meaning that news will never switch over to the internet.

At least not while im still alive.

News Today: Blogs & the Internet

Blogs and the Internet have significantly changed the way that news is reported today. People now can easily access news on the Internet, rather than buying a newspaper. Being able to do this is very convenient for people nowadays, as all you have to do is go online and Google any piece of news you want. Or, you can go online to any newspapers and look at the news they feature on their homepage.

This changes the way that news is reported because when stories are on the Internet, they are often multiple articles on the same story, or multiple sites that feature this piece of news. This way, readers can select what source they would like to read the article from, whereas with a newspaper, there is only one article, but with this one article, you get a variety of other stories.

Blogs have also changed the way that news is reported because blogs are not only a source of entertainment, but they also contain news. With sites like Perez Hilton, and Oh No They Didn’t, celebrity gossip and news is only a short click away. Sites like these are also constantly updated so they are completely addicting and always have new information. This keeps the news constantly flowing which is very convenient for the readers.

Blogs and the Internet Changing Our News?

Blogs and the Internet have made news more convenient and accessible to audiences.

With the internet, people don’t have to read the newspaper or wait for a certain time to get the daily news. They can find the stories they are looking for with a few clicks, and even filter through the ones that do not interest them. What also adds to the convenience is the fact that people can search for older stories and ones they may have missed on TV.

The internet also allows readers to search for stories in other parts of the country, or even the world, which is very useful for people who travel or want more than their local news.

Blogging is another online medium that has changed news reporting. It allows people to comment and share their opinion about a story. This can help other people better understand the situation, and maybe change someone's thinking with their point of view. Blogging could also enhance a report. Someone, for example, who was a witness or has further information beyond what was reported can add more detail or post pictures.

Blogs and Internet Changing the News

I think the way news is portrayed has changed significantly because of blogging and the internet. Because people can now state their opinions on blogs or internet news, people's views on the topic could change.

Blogs have recently become extremely popular. I think that this has changed the way people view news because blogs give people the opportunity to comment on news, and people's blogs may even have enough information where a person doesn't even want or need to go read the actual news article. Although blogs are very popular today, I don't think that I would ever have one.

I think that the internet also affects the news. Before the internet, people were getting their news from televisions, newspapers, magazines, or radios. But now, it is much easier to just log into the internet and type in whatever news article you are interested in reading. Although the internet news does affect the newspaper industry, I don't think it influences the news business in general as much because people are still getting the news, just in a different way.

The Changing of News Due to Blogs and the Internet

How have blogs and the internet changed the way news is reported?
The way news is being reported has very much changed due to blogs and the internet. Blogs has changed the news by giving everyday people the ability to state their opinion on the issues happening in the world today. Apposed to just listening to journalists from your local newspaper. Blogs also make it available for everyday people to give each other advice on the quality of new products, restaurants or even new movies in the theaters. This gives people the ability to get more than one opinion on whatever it is they want news on.
The internet has also changed the way news is being given; I think even more so than blogs. The internet not only gives a place for the blogs to post, but all the newspaper articles and magazines as well. Today, many people don’t always get hard copies of their local newspaper due to costs and that there is just not enough time in the day to always sit and read the entire thing. The internet makes it much easier for these people to find the article they are looking for whenever they have the time to read it, and not to mention it’s free. Overall, blogs and the internet has changed the way news is distributed in a positive and more efficient way.

Is radio a dying breed? Look at the history of the radio. When it first came out it was incredibly popular and was used by many families as a sort of bonding time. You would see entire families sitting around the radio and listening to their favorite programs. Radio was also a great way to get local and current information quickly. How has the impact of radio changed? Well, we do not rely on the radio for most of our entertainment anymore. Since the development of the television many Americans have stopped using the radio for entertainment. Why only listen to a program if you can see it. Radio went on to transform into a place people turned to listen to their favorite music. But with new technology such as ipods and subscriptions to download all the songs you want radio is becoming obs elite. The only thing that is keeping the radio alive are morning shows, and "in the car" radio listens. Will those listeners turn to new technology? How long will it take? Will radio survive if and when they do? Probably not.

News in New Forms

The internet and blogging are key components to how our news is reported today. Realistically all television news stations, newspapers, and magazines have online subscriptions and separate articles that can be viewed on their websites. Even older articles can still be viewed online at any time. This makes news more available to the population and it can be viewed or read at all hours of the day; which is crucial for a busy person who works a lot.

Many people don't get hard newspaper subscriptions anymore because since they are so busy, they don't have time to physically sit down and read the newspaper anymore. It also makes looking for specific articles a lot easier since each article can be separately searched for online.

It is much easier to view a newspaper online since each article is just a click away, as apposed to flipping through a huge paper.

Blogging has allowed the population to express their feelings about specific topics online. It also keeps people updated on specific issues because it is constantly updated with peoples' views.

Changes in Radio and Television

Radio and TV are types of media that have evolved in recent years.

Radio stations have become more widely accessible to audiences. Today, a lot of stations are online, so music and news for a specific station that may have previously only been available locally can now be accessed on the internet.

Satellite radios, like Sirius and XM, also allow for a larger audience. Even though listeners have to pay a subscription, satellite radios allow people to travel and be able to tune into the same station. Stations are specific, like news, weather, sports, and music. Unlike non-subscriptions radios, music channels are also often commercial free.

TV has also evolved as a form of media. People went from watching low quality, black and white TVs with a few channels, to High Definition, intensely colored TVs with hundreds of channels. Today, people can conveniently search for their favorite shows and scroll through show times to see what’s on. There is pretty much a channel for everyone. Some are specifically for weather, the news, sports, sitcoms, movies, cooking, nature, health, cartoons, comedy, fashion, game shows, music, and some are entirely geared towards children, adults, and teenagers. The options are endless.

Reality TV and competitions shows have especially taken over in recent years. These shows are casted with real people instead of actors, so people find it entertaining to watch real people in real life situations.

Commercials have also become a huge part of television. Shows and movies rarely air without commercials breaking it up, advertising products and services aimed towards that specific audience. What we watch on TV would be half the length and have as dramatic without commercials.

Revolution of News

The transition from paper to electronic forms of news has greatly influenced the industry. Similarly, blogging can also have a very large impact on society. These two relatively new forms of obtaining information have the ability to forever shape where we obtain our information about the world.

Prior to being able to access the news on the Internet, the public would have to wait at least until the next day to find out that an event even took place. Even so, often times not all the information had been gathered on a story and it might take multiple days to get a complete coverage on a topic. Since the Internet, stories are posted as they occur, and change as updates come in. Often time streaming video is even available, which makes the Internet even more instant than waiting for the nightly news.

Once people have heard coverage of the stories from the media of their choice, there is now the option to voice an opinion or comments through means of blogging. Blogging is a place where anyone can exercise their freedom of speech in order to persuade, inform, or for any other reason post writing on the web. There are many cases that blogging has actually enacted a change in society. For example, Trent Lott who lost his position as the most powerful member of the senate, due to a leak caused by a community member.

The use of the Internet as a source of news has greatly revolutionized the industry as we know it, and continues to improve the coverage of the stories around us. Internet also provides us with a way to voice our opinions and read those of others. This is another example of how technology has been used to broaden the horizons of society.

The New News: Blogs and the Internet

Recently the news has been more frequently reported using the Internet. This technological advance has allowed people to read and check the news whenever they feel the need. They no longer have to wait for their paper to be delivered or for the 6 o’clock news to be on.

With blogs, people are able to create their own news. Some companies have blogs to inform their followers. For example, an article about the SeaWorld trainer being killed by a killer whale contained a quote from the SeaWorld Corporation’s blog.

The Internet has made news on demand possible. All people have to do is go to CNN, Fox News, New York Times, or USA Today’s websites to find out the latest information about what is happening in the world.

With these new technological advances, news is reported in a whole new way. On the television news, the anchors now say things along the lines of “for more information log onto out website.” This shows that the websites on the Internet has more information that the 6 o’clock news is giving you.

Finally, the Internet allows no limitations; therefore the amount of information provided is endless. On television, the news is only allowed a specific amount of time; therefore they cannot pack in all the information for every story.

Newest forms of news

Blogging and the internet have had a substantial effect on how our news in reported. Almost all newspapers now offer an online subscription option or even just allow you to browse their stories by using the web. Because of this people have changed the way they go about receiving the news. Many have stopped the tradition of waking up with a cup of coffee and a big bulky newspaper. Whether it's your personal local news of major global news you don't have to have a paperboy drop off you paper every morning to hear about it. Although the television is also an option for those of us who don't have time in the morning there's the internet.

The internet is able to show you a full story without leaving any parts out or making you flip from A1 to A12 in the middle of a sentence. It allows you the flexibility of your personal schedule instead of televisions set 6 o' clock news and 11 o'clock news.

Blogging has also had an affect on the way we now take in news. Generally a different type of news, it seems as though message boards and blogs are more about people either expressing themselves and their views so the world can hear. Or blogging about the latest in celebrity gossip aka Perez Hiltons career.

Internet and News

It seems that almost all newspapers now have an online subscription capability. My girlfriend's dad works for a newspaper in Maine, and says that by going online Newspaper companies (or at least his) are not making as much profit. Many sites give the articles out for free online, and count on advertisement to make up the difference in profit, but the lack of people buying hard copies is taking a serious hit on the industry.

The internet has made it possible to read news literally minute to minute. If you go to google news there is a constant update of articles coming in. When Canada beat the US in the gold medal hockey game on sunday, two minutes later there was an entire article published on the AP.

I still like to have a hard copy of something to read, whether it is a magazine or a newspaper. Reading things online, for me, gets hard on the eyes and presents too many distractions. Although the internet is revolutionizing the way news is received, it still has its ups and downs.

Radio & Television

My car does not have a CD player, and I don't have an iTrip, so the only way I listen to music when I drive is on the radio. That's ok with me though, because where I live my radio stations are excellent, and I'm usually only driving five minutes away anyway. For me, listening to the radio is almost better than CD's because it has a bigger variety. Although the commercials can get a bit annoying, it isn't hard to switch to a station that has music on it.

I don't have TV here at school, so anything I do watch is on my computer. This is a vastly different way of viewing television than what i am used to. When I was still at home, my family and I would sit down for a show at night, twice a week. Every Monday for 24, and every Tuesday for Lost. It was a much better experience, I think, to be able to watch the show for the first time it aired, instead of having to wait until the next day and watch it online.

Although I am probably more productive without a TV here at school, I wouldn't mind having one once in a while.

Internet and News

The Internet in general has made a huge change in the way news is being reported.

Newspapers, which used to be the main source of news, are now posting their papers on the Internet.

Many people find it easier and more informative to use the Internet for news updates because it is very detailed and it is also basically instant news such as live news coverage on television.

Blogs have also helped to change the way news is reported because now people can post blogs to talk about the news voicing their opinions or even other information about the story so others can respond and read them.

This gives people other opinions to read about as well and not just a biased opinion of a certain newspaper or news station.

The Internet provides a instant access to news and also more information on stories due to the amount of space available on the Internet.

Blogs give people a way to voice their opinions on the news or even add information, which is something that cannot be done through newspapers or television giving the Internet a step up on the news industry.
