Significance of Movies

Movies can be educational, or just pure entertainment. Some are romantic, comical, scary, gory, informative, dramatic, or even action packed. They are a very entertaining form of media, but why are they so significant in our lives?

Movies are an excellent way to visually explain both fictional events, moral messages, and events in history. They have characters and emotions that an audience can connect with, which can really add to the effect and help the audience’s understanding of the story being told. Even movies with non-human characters, like most Disney movies and animated Pixar films, have themes about love, friendship, or bravery, which are all real life concepts that humans deal with.

When it comes to non-fiction, like films based on true stories or documentaries, sometimes watching movies can help the viewer better understand aspects that can’t be portrayed as effectively with words. Movies are especially helpful when it comes to depicting history. The Holocaust, for example is in every history book, but watching movies like Schindler’s List makes it easier to understand and visually see the hardships, and what it was really all about, while sometimes also telling a story.

Movies, whether they are meant to amuse us or teach us about life, take our emotions and perceptions to a whole new level.
