Technology, today, has had a large impact on the way children and adolescents have grown up. When it comes to our parents’ generations they did not know what cell phones, online social networks, mp3 players, or laptops were as teenagers.
Since the current generations of children and adolescents have grown up with all these technological luxuries, adapting to new machinery is second nature. It is easy for these generations to just jump onto a computer and log onto blogs or make a PowerPoint slide presentation with just a few clicks. As for older generations, they look at a computer like it is some kind of futuristic device.
When it comes to my media usage, the top contenders are music, text messaging, and Facebook. I listen to music to relax, focus, get ready for a game, or to just simply fall asleep. I’m listening to it right now actually. As for text messaging and Facebook, if you look around the Roger Williams University campus you will constantly see students on their cell phones texting away. Some phones even allow you to log onto Facebook so you always are up to date with your news feed and notifications.
Because the current generations have grown up with technology and media their whole lives, understanding it is as easy as flipping a light switch. These skills we are learning now with the technology will be extremely beneficial when we graduate college or grad school and begin to look for careers.
