Public relations is a branch of communications that manages the communication between an organization and the public. Any company that has a say in what they want to be portrayed as in the public has some level of public relations.
An example of good PR as oppose to bad PR is when the public relations branch speak at conferences, work with the media and engage in social media. Good public relations helps the company or organization have a high-quality image.
As for bad public relations, this is when crisis communications comes into place. Public relations professionals have to be quick on their feet. They need to be able to come up with resolutions to problems their clients may be facing. If their client is involved in a lawsuit of some kind, the PR team needs to get a story out to the public to help the client have a better image to the public.
Whether it is good or bad public relations, nearly every company needs a PR team. They need to keep the line of communication streaming between the organization and the public.
