Changes in Radio and Television

Radio and TV are types of media that have evolved in recent years.

Radio stations have become more widely accessible to audiences. Today, a lot of stations are online, so music and news for a specific station that may have previously only been available locally can now be accessed on the internet.

Satellite radios, like Sirius and XM, also allow for a larger audience. Even though listeners have to pay a subscription, satellite radios allow people to travel and be able to tune into the same station. Stations are specific, like news, weather, sports, and music. Unlike non-subscriptions radios, music channels are also often commercial free.

TV has also evolved as a form of media. People went from watching low quality, black and white TVs with a few channels, to High Definition, intensely colored TVs with hundreds of channels. Today, people can conveniently search for their favorite shows and scroll through show times to see what’s on. There is pretty much a channel for everyone. Some are specifically for weather, the news, sports, sitcoms, movies, cooking, nature, health, cartoons, comedy, fashion, game shows, music, and some are entirely geared towards children, adults, and teenagers. The options are endless.

Reality TV and competitions shows have especially taken over in recent years. These shows are casted with real people instead of actors, so people find it entertaining to watch real people in real life situations.

Commercials have also become a huge part of television. Shows and movies rarely air without commercials breaking it up, advertising products and services aimed towards that specific audience. What we watch on TV would be half the length and have as dramatic without commercials.
