Depending on Technology

Technology dependence is extremely common in today's world.

Everyone relies on technology to get through their daily lives.

I depend on technology because it helps me do what I need to do on an everyday basis, for example, talking to my parents, or e-mailing a professor.

Technology impacts my everyday life because it allows me to do my everyday activities with ease.

Instead of having to go to the library to look something up, I can simply find information online, making work a lot less stressful.

I found some of the information on the documentary tremendously surprising.

I was shocked to see that in South Korea, they actually treat internet addiction as a psychological disorder.

Many workplaces depend significantly on technology.

I can't think of the last time I walked into a store and didn't see some sort of technology, whether it being a phone or a computer.

Technology has a large impact on education.

It keeps kids much more engaged in class when using technology rather than when reading a book.

Like shown in the documentary, students received higher grades and went to class more frequently once they started using laptops in class.

Although technology is moving at a fast pace, it seems like there are a lot of positive aspects coming from it.

My fault or my friends?

I spend so much time with technology because I feel that I have to.

I don't depend on it but I feel that other people depend or force me to use it.

I feel that even my own family will or does get mad at me when I don't answer or don't call back.

My mother is a worry wart and if I don't answer her call or call back soon she freaks out and thinks im dead.

My friends are kind of the same way but they don't think im dead they think im mad and ignoring them.

I could go weeks with out using any technology if only other people wouldn't hate me for doing so.

The impact of technology in my everyday life is over the top.

I'm applying to be a graphic design major and since I can't draw I become limited to what I can do on a computer.

Most of my classes for my major are either computer based or use a computer in class.

Everywhere I go there is technology.

In the commins there is a TV.

In my room and my friends rooms there is a TV.

My homework requires technology most of the time.

Either in computer form or cd form.

I remember growing up with having to finnish my homework before I could do anything.

But at the same time I also ate breakfast in bed with the TV on.

I feel that my brother suffers more from technology then myself.

He relies on it way more then I do or ever did.

One way that I see that it is hurting him is that he has really bad grades.

There are many times when I wish that I lived in the time period not so long ago when there was zero technology.

When people didn't even have light bulbs and pluming.

I feel that I would be a lot closer to the ones I love if that were to happen.

In "Digital Nation" it showed a lot on how people are mostly or fully dependent on technology.

Even the person who made the movie found herself going to the computer and looking things up or checking her email.

It also showed us addiction.

Something I feel people don't fully realize that we have here.

I use to have friends who went to computer zones like they showed in the movie.

Their parents would drop them off and they would pay $5 to play for an hour or $10 to play till closing.

They would be there before the owner rolled out of bed and got there to open the doors.

They would be there till he kicked them out.

One of my friends and I would have to go there to see our friends.

The two of us would usually goof around and just chill out and not play video games while the other 10-30 people (depending on the night) would sit there for hours staring at the screen sometimes not even realizing we were there.

Some of the people who played there went once a week or less and all of them only went there because they rather pay the $10 to play with fast internet then pay the $50 to bring it home and have a slow computer and slow internet.

This place has closed about 3 or 4 years ago now.

There are time when I wish it was open but with no computers.

I miss all my friends from there and I miss all of us hanging out.

I miss all the jokes we pulled on each other.

But I don't miss the computers.

The movie we watch reminded me of that.

And when she said that only South Korea and a few other foreign countries have accepted that there is a technology addiction problem all I wanted to do is show my old hang out place to who ever decided that we don't have an addiction problem.

Something Missing

I feel I depend on technology because I feel comfortable when I have technology around me, and without it I feel like something is missing.

Thus I depend on it for comfort, I use technology in almost every part of my life.

I have a cell phone and without it I would feel like I am alone and that I cannot talk to anyone, I use my phone everyday, most of the day.

When not on my phone I am either listening to the radio, on the Internet, or watching TV.

If all of these technologies were out of my life I would not know what to do, this makes me very dependent on technology.

The PBS program exposed technology as it is and as many of us do not realize it to be, dangerous or helpful.

PBS showed both sides of the subject in that it helps students to learn but can also prevent them from learning if not used properly.

Technology is a major help in both education and the work place. In education it makes research easier and can teach students faster.

In the work place it provides programs to organize information and also keep track of information.

Today most people are dependent on technology because it makes life easier and with out it they would feel something is missing.

Technology is all around us

Technology is something our generation depends on, and without it we wouldn’t know what to do. Many

college students, including myself never spend any time during the day away from media. Even if we are

lying in bed relaxing, our cell phone is constantly going off from text messages from our friends, with

facebook and email minimized on our computer, with maybe even the TV on. However, when it comes to

technology and our education it is extremely helpful. Technology can help us complete research, write

and edit papers, and even create presentations. Technology also is very useful for adults in the

workplace. After watching the PBS program, "Digital Nation", I was shocked to see the severity of their

technology dependency in Korea. I cannot believe at such a young age, children are on the computers as

much as they are. If computers were used less in Korea, they would have more of a positive impact on

the children than negative. Technology is such a useful tool, and if used in small amounts can have more

positive affects on our generation as well as others.

Technology dependence is an addiction

Technology dependence is an addiction to technology.

Technology impacts my daily life drastically. As I do my homework, I’m constantly finding
myself multitasking by surfing the web, going on facebook, and talking or text messaging on my cellphone.

I also find myself always on my cellphone when I have nothing else to do, and even in class. As a result of this, I tend to pay less attention in class than I should be.

This type of dependence reduces face-to-face relationships with others since they don’t have to be around each other to discuss things.

Although technology can be distracting and extremely addicting, it can also be quite helpful. Students who have to do research, create presentations for class, or write papers get a lot of assistance from computers and other technologies.

Workplaces also gain from technology as well. Instead of having file rooms, companies can store all of their files and important information in a computer that automatically organizes it all.

In the right doses, technology can be extremely useful. In overdoses, it can be addicting; or even lethal.

What is technology dependence?

Think about technology and much you depend on it everyday. Why do you depend on it?

What is the impact of technology in your everyday life?

In class we watched "Digital Nation" from Frontline on PBS. How does this program reflect on technology dependence? Take a moment to analyze the impact technology has on education and the workplace.

Write you next blog (200 words) on the subject by creating your own title, not posting a comment to this blog.

Media Literacy

I feel like I understand most of the media that is around me in daily life.

In the generation that I was raised, technology was all around us.

I am constantly either on my cell phone, on the computer, watching TV or listening to the radio.

Everywhere I go I am surrounded by the media.

Although this may seem a little bit obsessive, it seems perfectly normal to my generation because that is what we were raised knowing.

If it weren't for the media, I would not be able to stay connected to my friends and family as easily as I do now.

With new technologies such as Skype, one can actually video chat with someone in a different country for free.

I believe that the media is what keeps all societies connected,

It is much easier to send someone a text message rather than having to send them a letter.

The economy desperately needs the media.

If it weren't for the media, many companies would have gone out of business because of the lack of advertising.

After reviewing how much I truly am surrounded by the media, I think that I will try to set a certain amount of time aside each day to just relax and be on my own, without any technologies.
